My 11 year old son was digging through the barn today looking for treasures (He loves American Pickers) and found an old leather key chain. It is black, and on one side shows an Oliver 70 with rear steel, the other side says "OLIVER FARM EQUIPMENT Co 400 W MADISON ST. CHICAGO - ILL, THERE IS A FACTORY BRANCH NEAR YOU" It has a key that appears locked in place in the key chain, and cannot figure out how to get it out (not that we want to). Now I do not know of there ever being an Oliver on this place and am not sure anything on the history of this piece, and he is more than curious if anyone out there would know anything. If you do, he would be very appreciative.

I have one of those with a styled 70. The stud that holds the key screws together. That looks like a Briggs & Stratton style key like what I put in mine too.

It looks as though the key was stored inside the leather pouch. Does the pop-stud still work? I would not be trying too hard as it is a super find after all these years and looks in remarkably good condition.

I posted this link on Mike Wolfe's facebook page from American Pickers. He said, "Go Kid Pickers".

Well since the 70 is on steel and it looks to me that it has the "Hart Parr" style flat grill I would say between 1935 when the 70 was introduced to 19 37 which was the last of the flat grilled 70's

I'm sure that the metal piece that holds the key in place screws apart. This one may not but many do. I find such items fascinating, and it may be worth something to a collector. Which leaves your son a choice, sell it to a collector, or keep it as one of the first of HIS collection, 'cause it sounds like he already has an interest in such. It's a great find anyway.

He's pretty proud of it right now, so I would guess he is planing on keeping it around for awhile. I am guessing that this was probably a dealer promo at some time. Would anyone be able to make a guess as to what the age would be?
