The original subject was "Re: Hercules military engine wturbo".

Mr. Schweibert:

In March, you posted, "The military models are known as LTD 465 because the original engines were 465 cubic inch. I would guess it is 478 There should be an engine number on that tag. Continental developed the engine, Hercules/later White engines built most of them. If you are going to use it for a tractor you may want to have the governor converted to a variable speed governor. See if it has an American Bosch PSJ pump or the later Bosch model 100 pump."

We are currently in the process of installing a miltary engine in the 2050, and we didn"t quite understand your comment regarding converting to a variable speed governor. Can you elaborate on why we may/should want to do that?

Thanks!

Well I was going to get you a "bunch of details" When Oliver had the 20 &2150 tractors on a bargin list we did very well selling those tractors. Oliver had some updates on those tractors and one of the updates was to take the pump to your friendly Bosch service center and have the governors converted to a variable speed governor. Remember you may want to operate the tractor at different RPM's for different jobs. A variable speed governor will do this. Remember this military engine is in simple terms a "truck engine". Most truck engines just have enough of a governor that it prevents the engine from overspeeding. If you have read any post on here where people install these 5.9 Cummins out of a truck they all need the governor converted. Not to get into other details but on a larger tractor brand X repower with an 855 Cummins they all had to have variable speed governors installed. The man that converted all the tractors for us is on vacation and I was going to use him for more details. I would also check your tractor on a dyno so you know what the tractor's output horsepower is.
