My dad bought an Oliver today for scrap price...manifold, carb, and SN plate among possibly other things are missing. Likely locked up.
It is a 6cyl, so dad says it should be a 66, 77, or 888? It has the block casting 185220 and M100. The head has M1800. Its got 13.6-38 rear tires, and a single wheel fount. With Sn gone, what else can we use to ID it?

The 185 number and the M100 make it a 77 or an early 770. 66 was a 4 cyl.

Well, if it is a 6 cylinder then you can eliminate the 66. They are 4 cylinders.

If it is a lighter color green, white wheels, flat grille and has flat mounting pads on the frame, then it is a 770 or 880.

If it has flat mounting pads on the frame, and a rounded grille, and green or red wheels, then it most likely is a Super 77 or 88.

If it does not have the mounting pads on the frame and has two openings that you could slide a pipe through, and has a rounded grille and perhaps shields that cover the entire motor, then most likely it is a 77 or 88 Row Crop.
Color more than likely is darker green with red wheels.

Are you sure the SN plate is gone? Some are located on the right side under the platform. Others are located on the left of the dash.

When we looked 10 years or so ago, It was there. When We looked a year or two ago it was gone. I didn't look today, but I'm thinking it was on the dash. I do think it has the mounts that pipe will go through. Off memory, cant say what color the wheels are. As for the shade of green, that is illrevelant except for possibly on spots that never see the light of day...Its set in the Arizona Sun for the last 20 years. Once we get it home, I'll post pictures.

M-100 makes it a fleetline 77 tractor. Where was the serial number tag located. The location changed to the dash in the summer of 1952.Before that it was on the right side of the transmission case. Does it have cast iron brake covers? If not, is there linkage between the brake petal and the actuating arm or do the petals hook directly to the brakes. Start there. I know what you mean with the sun out there. My brother in law had some equipment in the "big shed. He is over by Phoenix.
