12 volt battery on 6 volt tractor

Hi, I think my tractor which is in a semi restored condition has a 12 volt battery but not been converted to 12 volt operating system. There is no new alternator on it so I assume its still set up for 6 volt. How can I tell for sure what might be going on here. AS FAR A S RUNNING GOES IT WILL START quite well when cold then after warming up will die and not start again until it cools off. I bought the tractor 8 years ago from a friend who was a collector and then stored it in my shop basically until now. He cant remember if it was converted partially or why it has a 12 volt battery. Would the coil be damaged from the 12 volt or making it heat up and stop working ? I'm looking for advice on diagnosing if what I have and likely if I need to replace the coil or points etc that I might as well convert it to 12 volt properly. Thanks, Murray

I have seen more than one tractor with a 12 volt battery and a six volt generator. But check it out. There were 12 volt
generators. Next time it dies check for spark and then for fuel. Fuel line (and filters) could be clogged.

I forgot to mention its a 1944 2N I think based on serial number 9N150337
ook to see if it has cut out or voltage regulator. If still cut out, then high probability that it is still 6v generator with hi/lo adjuster screw on back of generator. Both good clues.
