12 volt Starter from Napa auto parts

Hi everyone. does anyone know if this starter from napa is a true 12 volt starter? the parts guy doesn't even know. and will this fit for the 1951 ford 8N tractor? the Napa part number is 449607
thank you.

seeing as how the part number is linked to a 1948 ford truck, I would assume it is a 6 volt ster.
this site sells both 6 and 12 volt starters. Most will tell you a 6 will work just fine on 12 volts. If it did not, you would see the starter as part of a 12 volt conversion kit.

I can't tell you if that starter is correct.
Why don't you buy a 12V starter from the good folks who provide us with this great Free site?
I have had very good results buying from our hosts.

I have got to agree. It also includes the bendix which Napa's seems like does not.

I am sure you can always return the starter to NAPA, only, if it hasn't been installed, yet.

Otherwise, they will usually refuse returns unless it is under their sales warranty of 1 yr, especially if they find it "defective".

I would stick with this site sponsors who are "specialists". Or, have the original rebuilt, locally.

It would work fine on 6 or 12 volts. It has the same windings either way. It just turns over slower on 6 volts as opposed to 12. That's the main reason why they started changing over to 12 volts in the late 50's and early 60's was it was easier to start an engine on 12 volts rather than 6.

They sell true 12v starters on YT. I just got one for Jubilee, $147 shipping included. works great.
