Tractor not starting test light at coil very bime when ignition switch on , 13 volts on hot side of ballast resister 5 volts other side of ballest resister . Ballast resister is supposed to be the same as hot side until it warms up yes or no.

o. will be same when points open

We need more info.

Ignition circuit voltage is different of the points are open or closed.

Are the points open or closed?

The picture is a ballast resistor. Is this what your resistor looks like?

And do you have a front or side distributor?

And for that matter.....are we talking about a 2N, 9N, 8N or NAA?

Post back w/ more info please.

forsnt or die dizzy and what coil and what resistor are you using. As said. hot side of ressitor is always bat voltage when switch is on.. v-drop across resistor when current is flowing.

It is a 8n front mount distributor i have resister in picture and the ciramic one. That came with 12 volt conversion .

Points must have been closed cranked it over checked again and same reading 13 volts on both sides of resister . Just when i think i have it running good i try to start it it wont start frustrating. I have hood of from head gasket replacement it started great for a while . Starter turns slow and there is a clunk noise . Ive cleaned carb rebuilt last year.i get good fuel flow from bottom of carb but plugs are not wet. I have one gallon fuel tank iam using is that not enough presure

Check out tip # 30.

Chances are very good that the tractor won't start because you are using the ceramic resistor AND the ballast resistor on a 12v coil. You have too much resistance in the circuit.

First, get a full charge on the battery. Then, jump around that ceramic resistor & see what happens.

If it won't start, pull the distributor & post back for more help to troublshoot the likely problems.

what coil???

slow starter?

is battery discharged?

bat volts on both side of a resistor indicates open circuit downstream. like points.. etc.

Reason for "what coil?" is that if you have the 2.5 Ohm, so called 12v coil, then sheet can the ceramic.
