12v conversion and 6v lights

If I convert to 12v from 6v can I put resistor before wire going to 6v lights? Can I use the 6v voltage regulator and run wire to lights or is upstream of regulator rated to low on the input side?

Yes you could use a resister but finding the correct ohm one would be hard to do. Yo can always wire the lights in series that way no resister needed but the down fall is if one light burns out the other light will not work

Depending on what type of lights you have, you may be able to
just put some 12V bulbs in the original housings and call it a day.

I had nearly new 6volt lights when I had to switch over. I just wired the two front lights in a series and wired them to 12 volts. They work just fine. When one of them dies they will both go out, but that will be decades down the road as little as I use lights on it. I had a 12 volt light for the rear so that is wired normally.

you will spend more $ and time finding a resistor to ballast them lights with.

You will also spend more time and some $ on wiring to series up your 6v lamps.

just BUY new 12v lamps and be done with it.

PS.. you don't need the old 6v reg when you do a 12v conversion ( via alternator or generator )

You can do it the old farmer way... Wire them up normally, watch them get very bright for a very short time, then replace them with 12 volt lamps.
