12v Conversion install on 8n

Ok, so I bit the bullet and am converting to 12v (but saving the parts to go back to 6 later if I want) and am having a heck of a time figuring it all out.

I got the kit from here and everything looks pretty basic, but the bracket that mounts to the bottom of the alternator and to the engine block is sloppy (figure have to shim it with washers), with the belt on the alternator it is 1/4" away from the manifold and when I look at where the top mounting bracket goes (on the head studs) it seems to get in the way of the sparkplug wire tube. Anybody have any pictures of the kit installed without the hood on? I really would like to see if what I am thinking is correct.

I know I will have more questions later as I go through the process, but until then....

Thank you from the now bald headed youngster.

I have heard a lot of complaints, over the years, that the brackets that are supplied with these kits and sub-par.

Pictures I got off the internet.

Thanks for the pics. I agree the supplied brackets are a little funky. I will have to try and look into it again as my alternator is way closer to the manifold than the one in the picture. Forgot to mention it is a front mount distributor.

I'm not sure if this will be relevant, but if your new alternator is too close to the manifold, is it possible you are using the wrong fan belt?
