12 v at the 6v coil???

Howdy,

Usually I can troubleshoot whatevers ailin my 39' 9N but this time I'm perplexed.

2 years back I parked the beast in the shed and have been just too busy to take er out for therapeutic spins. This year I need her to brush hog and of course she isn't there for me cauz I haven't been there for her. (sounds like my ex).

I converted it to 12v many years back and haven't had any real issues. So anyway, I try to start er now and...dead battery and no spark even when I jump it with my car. Ammeter seems to be totally inoperable as well. Hmmm... Slap on the new 6v coil and condenser from TSC I got and... nuthin. In fact I see 12v at the coil!! Back to TSC and get a new reducion resistor and still 12v at the coil.....Watzup with dat?

And no spark and a dead ammeter....

Everything seems to be hooked up correctly. The Ballast resitor checks out fine. I've cleaned the points but didn't check em with the meter.

Any ideas?

Thankz.

There's no voltage dropped across the resistor without current flow.
There's no current flow either because your points aren't closing
or the coil isn't making good contact to the distributor, etc.
I'd take the distributor back off and double check both.

P.S. You may want to pick up a spare set of points at NAPA or
another good parts place. Those from TSC are not likely to last long.
