Disappointed.... 03-02-2013 06:20:57 24.220.105.110 Report to Moderator	Anyone from Bemidji going to pick up that 8n that was on cl for 995? I am really disappointed in the gentleman selling it. I was the first caller on it and had told the guy I wanted it. First I had asked him how soon he wanted it out of there and he said asap. Well tabs expired on the trailer. After realizing there is a 10 day grace period called him back and he said he had sold it to someone in Bemidji. I am extremely disappointed that we said we wanted it and would come get it sunday. Guess his friend who listed it said do not hold it for anyone. 8n had a new clutch new valve train new rear tires, had mostly been painted, just needed put back together. Is that how people are, don't give the first caller a chance to get there just sell it to whomever shows up with money first? [Reply]   [No Email]

Often I've found it's not as stated in the text or as it appears in the pictures. Someone who called about a 2000 Expedition I had for sale said the pictures looked like the center console has grease on it. On second look I had to agree but it was just where the leather was worn and was darker than the surrounding area. Light does funny things. Good thread, have some things I need to sell soon! But if some one calls and say they will come by tomorrow and then some one calls and says they will be right over. The first one here gets it. If the other person had left contact information I will let them know it is sold. Big problem with selling stuff, people will say they want it and never show up. The one I have trouble with is where no asking price is mentioned by the seller and asks for an offer. I make an offer and seller says, "I think it is worth more than that". OK. Good bye. I try to be fair in my offer based on what I know about the value of an item in general and what I know or can see of the item for sale. My view is that seller does not know the value, is affraid to ask a price (that may be too high or too low) or is hoping to get rich from an uninformed buyers impulses. If the seller can't or won't counter with a price, either an asking price or a firm price, I feel that I'm waisting my time. When time and distance become factors, I'm really not interested. I"ve gotten some deals that way, and lost some just because I couldn"t get there soon enough. Assuming they give me a time for the same or following day I usually agree to hold it until their stated time. I always tell them after that time - call first before driving out. If you just agree to hold it and someone else calls, then you will need to tell that person you can't sell it and ask them to check back; that does not work very good. I also do not provide a location/address until they give me a definite time when they will be out to pick up. When I agree to hold something it is held however, only until the stated day and time. I have an 8N for sale & have "sold" it twice and have them say they will call to tell me when they can arrange pick up, then never hear from them again. The last one even went so far as to list a cgslst ad "8N wanted" the day after he was to call. I also once bought a power steering setup for my 900 & told the guy "Don't sell it to anyone else, I can't get there until tomorrow, but I will be there" & got his promise. When I get there I heard "I sold it." The sad part was that it was still there, he had been offered a better price! I guess it takes all kinds! I offered him less than the asking price and held out the cash. He had another guy coming in an hour but decided my cash in hand was a sure deal, the guy coming in an hour was not. Too many times the "other guy" never shows. I bought a boat from CL a few years ago. I called on the add and was told that someone had already spoken for it and went to the bank for money. There were two other guys that wanted it too and the seller felt obligated to put them on the list ahead of me if his first buyer fell through. I gave him my number and asked him to call me if things didn't go as planned. Four days later my phone rang. The 3 guys ahead of me had all disappeared. I was the second caller on the tractor. The first caller had made an offer of $1600 and would be driving up later that day from about 3 hours away. I told the seller that I would give him his asking price and I could be there in 10 minutes with cash. He refused. That's a man who's word is good and I told him I really respected him for it. With one exception: I will not haggle about money over the phone with a buyer. I state my price in my ad. If they ask me on the phone if I will consider an offer I just tell them the price is as stated. If they want to come look at it they can make me an offer then but not on the phone. So while it is irritating when they do, I can't really blame them. Legally, a promise to hold something is worthless if there has not been consideration - no money has changed hands. So I have on occasion, when I could not arrange transport, driven an hour or two just to leave a deposit to hold it. One neat trick you can often do these days is offer to paypal a deposit - it' gets the money to them instantaneous and gives proof of your good intentions, as well as legally binding the recipient.
