I use the same 6 volt solenoid that was on it, like SoundGuy said.

Yes, for a 6 volt system.
"When I see someone using 7.5v and then dividing by ohms, 2.6 being typically 1ohm resistor and 1.6 coil, they arrive at 2.8 v. I saw a post that said 3.6 was fine, but 4.6 was high. What's the typical operating range? "
What they're actually doing is taking the running/charging voltage, approx
7.3 and dividing by the resistance of the circuit to come up with operating
current through the coil. i.e. 2.8 Amps, not volts.
Too much current will melt a front mount coil.
