wsmm 12-23-2012 11:52:03 70.194.6.106 Report to Moderator	I had posted earlier about my 2N being difficult to start, but ran good once started. Pulled in the pole barn let it set a few days and then it wouldn't start. Pulled the plugs full of black carbon soot, replaced with new Autolite plugs. Pulled carb and cleaned it out with solvent did not blow out or run wires through any of the passages, put back together. Still no start. Fuel is getting to carb, pulled brass plug on bottom, gas came out. Tried cranking some more even used starting fluid, no luck. Did notice some gas running out of air inlet on carb. Pulled #3 and 4 plug, did not appear to be wet with fuel. Checked spark to plugs 3 and 4 and 1. good spark. Used test light that goes between plug and plug wire. Tested compression on #3 and 4 cylinder, due to ease of reaching them, over 100 psi. Like I stated before I do have an exhaust leak at #4 cylinder due to eroded exhaust manifold. Had to stop do to the temperatures here in Michigan and did not want to fire out the barrel wood stove do to its nearness to the tractor and the fuel issues. Open for any further suggestions on getting the 2N running before I need it. It has a front loader and back blade and is a back up to my plow truck. Thanks, Bill [Reply]   [No Email]

Den N Ms 12-23-2012 12:45:34 184.41.137.166 Report to Moderator	Re: Update on 2N not starting in reply to wsmm, 12-23-2012 11:52:03   wsmm,Take one of the old plugs that you took out and stretch the gap open to 1/4"ground the base to the head and check the spark.Or just use a Phillips screw driver stuck into the plug wire boot and hold it 1/4" away from a head bolt or plug base.The spark should jump the 1/4" gap and be blue or blue/white. Your light will not tell how good the spark is. [Reply]  [No Email]

If so will the spark jump a 1/4" gap? When was the last time you removed the dist and checked the points? [Reply]  [No Email]

The spark plug is in the engine normally. You disconnect the sprak plug wire from the plug and connect this unit between the spark plug wire and the plug which is still in the engine.
