I bought this 8N from a friend that was moving, It runs good and everything seams to work very well but the 3pt dosent raise very high. When its all the way down the right arm with the adjuster on it rests on the axel tube and the arms are about 1/2" from the ground. Is it posable that someone has moved the upper arms have been moved on the splined shaft and are now in the wrong posisition? Its full of oil and wont raise more than a foot off the ground. Any ideas? Bandit |

| This may sound very simple but it did happen to me. My quadrant handle was cocked in the base that it is bolted in, so that when the handle went all the way up and stopped at the top of the cage, the base was not going up all the way. Take a look at the pic below and you'll see how the handle is cocked in the base.
I straightened the handle in the base and the lift arms will now go up to full height. After straightening the handle in the base, I tapped a nail in the slot between the handle and the base so the handle can no longer go crooked in the base even if the bolts loosen up a bit.

| Some people put the rear tires on backwards when they are using the
tractor to mow the yard. They're not supposed to cut in as bad that way.
Never actually tried it myself. |

| Is there a reason the rear tires are on backwards? Also does it have the right lift arms? Saw one had that problem but they had put different arms on it that were too long. |

| I dont have a clue why they are on backwards. Its one of the things on a list to do to it. I did put a set of tires on the front (6.00x16) and took the little 5.00x15 off and it did help the steering. It allways amazes me how much money people will put into a tractor and do something wrong and when get rid of it. It had a bad miss when I got it ( one of the resons he wanted to sell it), I got it home on the trailer dad started it up and I saw a plug wire moving around pushed it down and the miss was gone! That was all that was wrong with it. Sometimes it the simple things. Bandit |

| Probably worn cam and pin in hydraulic top. Fixed mine last year. If it raises higher when your push down on the little draft control lever and hold down on it, that is what it is. Not very hard to fix. Richard in NW SC |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeHello, Richard. Could you please explain further about the connection between pushing the draft control lever down & holding and the conclusion that this means that the cam follower pin is worn. My puzzlement is that when in this position, the Position control linkage of which the cam follower pin is a part, is effectively disconnected from control of the hydraulic control valves????? |

| | What a great photo! It's nice to see an N still working on a farm. If I'm understanding you correctly, your lift arm description sounds pretty normal to me. Colin, MN |

| About 115 bu of shell corn. I was suprised it pulled it in the field but it went right along with it. Seams to have plenty of power. Bandit |

| It should pull that wagon fine, watch out for hills though.
Pretty light tractor, and usually not the best brakes.
As for the 3PT, like JMOR said, the arms only go on one way.
Does it make any difference if you switch the little 3 inch lever under
the right side of the seat from Draft mode to Position control? |

| Lift arms have one wide spline among the many narrow splines, thus no possibility of installing them wrong. Can you lift the lower lift links all the way to the top with your hands? |

| I dont know, I have only had this 8N for about a month and realy havent fooled with it to much. I will have to check tomorrow when I go to the farm. First Ford we have ever had on the place and I dont know that much about them. But I will see when I get up there and take a better pic. I guess I should have done some checking first before asking questions. Bandit |
