Royse 12-15-2012 12:39:46 69.36.49.151 Report to Moderator	I traded one of my 8N's, the one we affectionately called "Smokey Joe", for this today. It needs some work, has oil leaking from the engine and it's so dirty I can't tell where yet. Started and ran good, loader works nicely as does the 3 pt. Original paint is still in and on the bucket. About the same size as the N's HP, weight and length wise. 25 HP 3 cylinder diesel, 6 fwd 2 reverse manual tranny. 4 x 4, dual speed live PTO, live hydraulics and power steering. Rear wheel weights, suitcase weights on the front. Tires in very good shape. I'm not sure of the year. Original manual is dated 2005. Of course, I don't really expect it to last 60 years either. My biggest concern is parts availability. I did find some online places. Yes, I know it's made in China. I'm a trader, not a traitor. ;) [Reply]   [No Email]

I've pretty much decided to stick with an "American" brand where I might have better luck getting parts and support, even if it's older than what I might want otherwise. Can't afford to make a bad decision and be stuck with a pile of junk that can't be unloaded. I like the Fords & NH so will look there first, have New Holland, Kubota and JD dealers close. I'd even consider a Mahindra or LS (dealers close by too) as they seem to have a good reputation. The Chinese seem to have some catching up to do in the quality dept. [Reply]  [No Email]

To my understanding if you wnated to market those under your name Jinma will put your name on it. I was told when they do you take up warrenty responsibility. I knew when I posted this I would get some "hate mail" so to speak. I love my N's, I still have 5 of them plus two x00 series and a 4000. Truth is though, the loader on this tractor sells for more than most of the N series tractors do around here. Do I expect it to be my main tractor? No. Do I expect it to outlast my N's? No Do I expect it to be as reliable? No. Do I expect it to need as much work? Yes, maybe more. I honestly don't think you would have given much over $500 for "Smokey Joe" if it were local to you. As a veteran myself, I would prefer to buy American. Problem is, if you want something new, there aren't any. As for the Chinese, we bash their products pretty regularly. However, most of the time, they are building exactly what they are told to build as dictated by their parent company's specifications. Those parent companies may be Ford, Chevy, Dodge or John Deere for example. If our spec's required that a part be built out of ABC metal and withstand XYZ force at DFE temperature, within .00xx tolerance, they would build it. Instead we demand that they produce a part that is less than $20. And they build it. Then we complain about the quality. [Reply]  [No Email]

The reality is that if established companies do not import from China, or any other area where the costs of production are lower, their competition (established competition or new comppetition) will. It is bad enough corp greed has moved everything they can from this country I love just to squeeze another dime into their pocket. I spend just a few minutes on the net when it comes to buying things MADE in the USA,it can be done. I can even find N parts made in the USA,feel free to ask me where, granted we are forced to buy a lot of things made in china but it is only after I exhaust all avenues. I am with soundguy on the 8N out lasting it cause it will. The only reason these Ns are sold for scrap is they were totally abused for a long time. You could have found a TO-35 that had everything this did less the buyers remorse. I wont say sorry to anyone for the way I feel about where this country is because of the china imports and people who say the illegals do jobs AMERICAS wont.Royse dont take my reply personally its not your doing,except the part about the TO-35. He's on his fourth clutch and can't afford to upgrade to the larger clutch. He also says there aren't any splined shafts; they're all sleeved/ collared and drilled for roll pins. IE.. they like to be worked on. problem is.. less parts and dealerbase.. and some stuff on some models is already obsolete. many odd problems. shafts of soft metal.. frotn end gears and shaft shear off.. pto and driveshafts twist. soft gear faces.. bad heat treating.. etc. nightmeare hyds design that has hyd pump hooked up via QD's to other parts of the machine, but no relief at the pump side, only after the QD side.. thus if qd pops loose.. pump deadheads by design. GOOD JOB! :( I'd take a 55-64 ford for 'work' ANY day of the week.. [Reply]  [No Email]

Think another name for them is Jimnie or something like that. I seen a couple in person here in New England. Owners bought because they were half the cost of a Ford/JD/Kubota. I don't know how good they really are. I have never seen one on a dealers lot as a trade in, so owners are either holding onto them or sending them to scrap????? [Reply]  [No Email]

Despite all the dire warnings, I would bet if you baby the thing it will be real handy. Just don't beat it and you will get lots of use. But I would have kept "Smokey Joe'.
