tn8n 11-06-2012 10:00:44 166.214.54.161 Report to Moderator	trying to figure out why my chainsaw won't stay running and i was hoping somebody here has the expertise or maybe has run into this before. i bought it used and it wouldn't run more than 10-20 seconds. the fuel line was rotted and split and letting in air so i replaced it and that fixed it for a while. i haven't torn it down very far, but i'm wondering if it has a condensor that is getting hot? i fully dis-assembled and cleaned the carb, air, and fuel filters. i bought a manual and adjusted the carb per factory specs, and it will run perfectly fine for maybe 15-20 minutes or more, until it's good and hot, then it loses power and dies. i have to fully choke it, then go to half choke, and it will start back up and run for a minute and then die again. it bogs down quickly and dies as soon as you give it any throttle at all. if i start it at half choke it will stay running. i've heard of adjusting chainsaw carbs until they "four stroke" and then back off a bit to get it right, what does that mean? thanks for any help, matt [Reply]   [No Email]

tn8n 11-06-2012 16:32:40 166.182.3.99 Report to Moderator	Re: OT: stihl 021 Chainsaw in reply to Abbby, 11-06-2012 15:41:35   the only markings i can find on the carb is wt 215, and that doesn't seem to show up on any of the lists i'm finding online. may just have to take it to the stihl dealer here locally and see if they have one. how big of a job are the crank seals? i saw on another forum said it was time for a new saw, but i hate to buy new things when i can fix them. I have a manual I could check tomorrow but maybe try a chainsaw forum like arborist site or race saws. Old stihl s are still well supported , even in the aftermarket .
