I have the head to a TE 20 that is plugged up. I really don't want to remove it. If it was a flat head, I'd do it. I'm not real confident with an overhead valve setup. Is there any way to flush it? I've had CLR setting in it for 24 hrs and no movement yet. TIA

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeDon't know if it works better hot. I ran it because I thought circulation 'might' help.

Very simple and no head jokes even if I am former navy. Drain the cooling system. Fill the cooling system with vinegar run it till work let cool drain and then back flush by way of the block drain. Rig up a way to hook a garden hose to the block drain and let it flow for an hour or so. If real bad strain the vinegar and then fill the system back up and run again. Vinegar will clean out rust and lime etc and works very well

Ok. Wasn't sure if the vinegar would be strong enuff. I'll find some 10% and fill the head till I get some circulation. then button it up and refill completely, run til it's hot, repeat. Does vinegar work better when it's hot?

Yes any acid which is what vinegar is works better when hot. Water which is a universal solvent works better hot and that is why you wash dishes in hot water LOL or at least one of the reason

Don,
On a ship the toilet is called the head.
So when you ask about flushing the head you're gonna get some snickers.

I've been on a lot of boats but no ships. I have heard it called the "head" (my Dad was in the Navy). I chose the AF. (%^)

My immediate thought was, open the valve and pump the handle !

Well, I think he was making a bit of a joke - different kind of head....do you think that the same stuff you use to do a radiator flush might work?

I somewhat doubt CLR would do much - probably need some industrial strength stuff to shift that - then there is the risk of loose gunk getting into the water pump and jamming that up. Good luck.

I had a feeling it was a funny, but I guess it went over my head. (Pun intended). The thought occurred it could just move to another spot. Since the pump is off I hope it would flush out. The radiator flush from Prestone uses sodium citrate and says it isn't acidic. CLR says not to get it on your flesh so I figure it might be stronger. Could be wrong. I'm leaning toward muriatic acid but would water it down.
