So I rebuilt the neighbors distributor off his 2N. The distributor has two "tabs" or whatever you call them that will fit into the block in a slot..I marked where the rotor faced before I took it off as to remember to put it back on that way. BUT. how do I know that the neighbor or someone before didnt put it in 180 degree different. The tabs dont appear to be different so in my mind could be possible. The reason i ask is it runs at idle alittle rough. not bad but I just cant seem to get it adjusted to run nice and smooth.. Do these tractors idle smooth..I might add that the last 4 feet of exhaust is shot dont know that that matters alot. |

| mss3020........ruff idle? Replace yer sparkie wires with NEW COPPER-CORE sparkie wire cut to length. ($15, cheap) You doubt? Go out on dark knight and watch them lazy sparkies dance on top of the dried out and cracked insulation. I bought some "hot-rod" sparkie wires fer Pontiac-V8 so I had right-angle insulation booties over the sparkies (have 4-spare, grin) .........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeAs TOH said, plus you said that it runs & if due to really, really excessive cam/distributor wear you could insert it backwards, it would not run.
Verify #4, #3 wires:

The tangs are offset from the center line and it only goes on one way. You need to bench set the static ignition timing off of the proper side of the tangs so if you didn't see the difference when installing the new points you need to double check the timing.
