"51 8N, 6V, side mount dizzy. So I read a post recently about how, if your hydraulic position control won"t stay put, and tightening the nut doesn"t help, you can replace the cork friction disk to fix it. Since this problem has plagued me for some time, I (almost) immediately ordered up a new friction disk (C5NN518B). However, I went to install it, and couldn"t get the handle hub thingy to come off. Kinda looks like it needs a puller of some type. Is this the case, or is there another way? If I need a puller, please advise the specs for this tool. Thanks! Joe |

| | Thanks for all the great advice. Sounds like it's one of those things that's just kinda hard. I'll worry it a bit and see what happens. Why would they make it alumininum??? Joe |

| JP, Had the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago. Removal of the outer portion of the handle seemed impossible. Fearing breakage of the outer metal disk I removed the remaining cork disk.Found nylon cord that was about the same thickness as space between the metal disks and tightly wound the cord into the space. It has worked so far. If it loosens again I will rewind the cord. Hope this helps! Mr. T. Minnesota |

| | The hub to which the touch control handle bolts is aluminum. Almost certainly the use of a puller will break it. Penetrating oil, moderate pressure, moderate heat, e.g., propane torch, and plenty of patience may remove it. If not, cast iron aftermarket hubs are readily available. Dean |

| I have used a puller with out breaking it.Thin wooden wedges driven in close to the shaft works.Jacobs chucks are removed from taper shafts with 2 wedges.Apply a good penetration oil and leave it for a few days.Aluminum melts at 1000 degrees so no heat.Kerosene works as well as most penetrating oil.Now when you put the hub back on put some grease on the tapered shaft. It has a key in it.Grease stops the corrosion between metal to metal. The cross shaft can freeze up in cold weather.Get rough and break the casting.A hair dryer or heat gun will free it up.Now you know I know about quadrant levers. |

| | Bingo. Wedges sometimes work. Pullers rarely do. Dean |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeSorry to bring an ill wind, but you should have ordered the metal disk, too, as they usually corrode to shaft & much heat turns the potmetal/aluminum? into a glob on the floor. Maybe with luck, soaking with ATF/acetone, PB Blaster, etc. and moderate heat, but not real promising. |

| I have heard of people slitting the cork disk and putting a little adhesive on the back and sliding it in if they couldn't get it apart without breaking it. |
