I have a Funk 6 cyl cast oil pan with a cracked head and cracked
block. Can I use my funk parts to convert it into a 8 flathead.
Bellhousing, steering link extensions.... What modifications?

If it is a flathead 6 then it has 226 or 254 cubic inches . Externally they look the same but the casting number on the head may have an "m" for the 254 in place of the "H" in the 7HA ('47) or 0HA ('50) prefix .

I believe the 254 has a 3.5" bore where the 226 has a 3.3" bore . Same stroke 4.4" and crank . The 254 came out in the bigger F series commercial trucks .

Odds are that it is the 226 Ford production motor that was very common in that era . And they made lots of hot rod parts , finned aluminum heads , 2 - 1v & 3 - 1v intakes , hot cams , etc .

The Funk motors used the flat (horizontal) intake where the carb sat at 90 degrees . Most cars and pick ups had a slight tilt since the motor sat at a slight tilt . Stationary motors and big trucks had the flat intake . My Funk had a cast iron wedge that up-righted the carb and rotated it 90 degrees for the linkage . The spacer plate has "Funk" cast into it .

Glover was another company that made spacers and there is still a company that sells spacers for about a grand +/- ???

The Funk Starter is the hens tooth since it was specially made to push the teeth into the flywheel because of limited space as there was no provision in the bellhousing . You can buy a 12v high torque mini starter for the V8 flatheads to work on a 12v system . Custom sized radiators also .

Early models used a spacer , stock oil pan , and C channel rails where the later models had a one piece cast iron spacer / oil pan

Not many of the 4 cylinder parts are used . Some of the governors have been modified and the fan/pulleys too.

Short answer , No .

You may or may not be able to modify the engine to bellhousing spacer section of the oil pan , that is assuming you destroy the cast oil pan to make just the spacer . I dont know if the block bolt hole spacing is the same is what I am saying , then it would require extensive machine work to make a "rail" style conversion .

The 6 cylinder is two cylinders longer than the straight 4 or v8 so the steering link extentions are not correct either .

Is the 6 cylinder a flathead (226/254 cid ) or an overhead valve motor (215/223 cid ) ? They have different bolt patterns .

The flathead 226 is a very common motor , and was used in cars , pick ups , & large trucks (F-6 ?) There are still lots of these motors available , check ebay of one .

Basically Ford made just one flathead six , the early "G" version ('41-'47) with a front distributor or the later "H' version with the side distributor .

Do not buy a early front dizzy model as many of the components do not interchange , the heads and blocks look similar but can't be swapped .

The 226 flathead has more power than the rest of the tractor can use and the power is about what the v8's had .

How can I tell what cubic inch my funk 6 cyl is?? Also who actually made the motor? What motor parts will interchange?

Ken,
The engine is the more popular 226 cc. It has the left side
distributor and it is all there.
I knew it was too good to be true-v8 would have been cool.

Thanks for the info. I will be looking for a replacement 226 block
(engine).
