My "52 8N (12V conversion, EI conversion) is running fine. The problem is that the exhaust smell is so rich, it"s enough to kill me when hooking up any three point stuff.I"ve already pulled and cleaned up the air cleaner element and put in new oil. Oil pressure on this engine is good even when warmed up. Even tried a little Sea Foam in the gas tank. No human hands have touched the carb since Gary did his magic to it three years ago. I try to learn when Dell tells me not to touch the "tweakums" on the carb. What should I check next? Doug in east TN |

| To each his own on the vertical exhaust pipe. My 9N came with one and I switched it out as soon as it needed it. Got tire of dodging low hanging anything, and having exhaust blowing back in my face. I much prefer the stock horizontal system. |

Are those expensive? Would like to have one of those rather than the exhaust out the back for the same reason - often think I am going to suffocate when putting on the equipment with the engine running - I leave it running so I can hop back on and off and move it a bit back and forth etc.

| | Are you certain that the choke valve returns to the fully open position? Did you clean the down tube inside of the air filter? It is not uncommon to find these nearly closed-off with accumulated dirt. Dean |
