Tim in alaska 09-18-2012 12:34:35 216.137.192.197 Report to Moderator	Thanks in advance for your help. I have a brake lever that is not returning. assume return springs on brakes have quit. Shop manual says take off wheel... remove axle bearing retainer nuts and slide whole assembley which is back axel free. Now I have gotten my tail in the fan too many times to not check. does this assembly slide out this easy and what about the brake rod actuater. does this have to be disconnected from the tractor body or does it remain on tractor when the axel unit is removed. thanks again tim [Reply]   [No Email]

The advice by others here to try lubing to loosen the brake shaft at the bushing in backing plate and the other end at the axle housing is good advice that may save you some work! [Reply]  [No Email]

Your brake springs are probably OK, but there is corrosion and gummed up oil between the brake activation shaft and the backing plate. I have freed these up with a combination of PB Blaster, heat and lots of movement with my feet and hand. Takes a few days to weeks. [Reply]  [No Email]
