See picture two posts down (native grass in Indiana). I was mowing and suddenly the engine sounded like a bucket of bolts had been droped on top of the cylinders. Had good oil pressure and power was OK. Shut it down and towed it out the way for now. Will have to tow it into the garage this weekend to start the tear down and inspection. |

That's what I am hoping for. Noise definitely seems to be in the upper engine. I let it run for a minute or so while looking to see if there was anything in the fan. No fluid loss and oil pressure stayed up. Noise got worse so I shut it off. Will be a few days before I get to investigate as I am out of town the next two weekends.

My 2N did that a few months ago. Dropped #2 sleeve and broke the piston top off.

Sounds like you dropped a sleeve into the oil pan. You apparently let engine run a little after the problem as it had oil pressure. Check you compression and if one cylinder is real low around 70 or so thats your problem. Put a new sleeve in and clean out your oil pan and you're good to go. If engine is old or using oil etc. you will want an engine kit.

I guess you can feel some sort of relief if there are no rods/pistons hanging out the side of the block.
