I just picked up an N with the Sherman hi/low gears. The hydraulic oil is milky and muddy. I have a five gallon pail of NAPA 75210 80/90 gear oil. It says gl4, gl5. It says nothing about being yellow metal safe. I looked at the MSDS online and it says it"s Valvoline mineral oil. Can anyone tell me if it"s safe to use? Thank you |

| | I personally wouldn't use it i mine.. But I don't mind if you use it in yours. :) preferably it would carry an MT1 rating and be yellow metal safe.. otherwise, on the micro level, the ep sulfur compounds, when they hit water, will have a corrsive effect on yellow metals.. like in your hyd pump. it's slow and long term.. not somthing that's gonna eat the pump out in a year... getting the water out and clean oil in it is a lil more important than the makup of that 80w90 for the time being. drain the sump.. dump in 3g of diesel, a couple quarts of atf-f, and 3 pints of 90% rubbing alcohol. take a joy ride around the yard.. drian. refill with clean oil. when you repalce the oil.. buy a correct one next time around.. |
