Based on advice from replies to my last post I took the alternator to a parts store and had it tested. It was fried. Hooked it up to the existing wiring also adding a 5W side marker light in-line with wire #1. The light burns brightly when the switch is first turned on and under ~500 RPM. However, the light never goes completely out. Didn't notice till late evening yesterday. Checked all of the wiring to JMOR's diagrams and discovered that there is not a terminal block. Looks like the PO was using the ammeter instead. What does the block do? Is it needed (know Ford didn't add non-needed parts)? Is it a specific part, do people use something other than 8NN 14448? Checked with my multimeter and barely moved the needle checking with ohms. Had another from a pickup project but it's too big for the hole. Just wired everything through the ign switch. The light goes off above 600 RPM and 14 volts at the battery with it running. Gonna save my pennies for a terminal block, ammeter, wire and terminals and completely redo her. Thanks for the help. It is just a place ( 2 places actually) to connect wires. You could use 2 wire-nuts. You could use twist-together-n-tape or you could connect at some other point such as ammeter and ign switch or where ever it makes sense. While you don't need it per se, you do need a place to easily connect the wires. The terminal block just makes it easier. And, every decent wiring diagram shows the terminal block, so troubleshooting becomes easier as well. 50 Tips [Reply]  [No Email]
