Got a 45 2n with Sherman OD. After reading discriptions of "growling noise" in previous posts it sounds like I may have a bad bearing in tranny. My question is can I get that noise in one gear only. First gear is the culprit no nosie in nuetral,2nd,3rd or reverse.Same thing when in OD except a little louder in first.I think I can see the first gear through the filler hole and it looks good...no missing teeth and still square on top.Tranny and clutch works like it should. Anything else I should check? Any thoughts? Thanks Dan |

| If you can see 1st gear, carefully move it with a screwdriver to check the backlash-- about .004-.006", I'd say. It's understood that you can't get stuff down the hole to measure it, the numbers were just for reference, to see of the screwdriver test warrants removal of the trans cover. For accuracy, you will want to drain the trans and flush it out with Diesel fuel by idling it for a short time. This way, the clearance will be much more discernable. |
