Will an 8n pull a two bottom Ferguson plow. Model 14-A0-28? I found one in great condition and am going to bite if the 8n can handle it.

Well, thanks for the comments, but it doesn't matter. I saw the thing on Friday afternoon and I called them today to go get it, but someone bought it on Saturday. I had prior commitment otherwise I would have bought it. It had straight steel, two coulters, and so on. It was a real peach.

My 9N pulls a 2 bottom Dailmer-Benz, rebadgeed as a Fergie fine,
and that is in rough sod.

That's exactly the plow I bought about five years ago to turn over about 2 1/2 acres around the house to plant bermuda. It teamed perfectly with my 52 8N. Of course, I live on a sand hill so did not encounter any clay but it pulled really well. I even experimented and was successful in plowing in 4th gear. Not that I recommend it but I just tore through that weed patch I was plowing up.

Just what the 8N was designed to do. You have to consider engine power: worn out or fresh rebuild.
Traction: loaded tires with little wear or smooth empty tires (or no weights). Soil type: sand, sandy loam, clay. And moisture content: Clay turns easier with some (but not too much) moisture.

Mine,a 9n will pull a 2-16 in the clay/sand here in the west Tn soal, but a 2-14,or better,a 2-12 would work and still do a good job on a garden. I break up the soil, then disc until I get a good soft, and clean bed. lha

I plow with a 2-14 Ferguson here in SE Ohio clay, and it's
about all the tractor can handle - would do better if I loaded
the tires, I'm sure - chains don't help much, so I'm dancing on
the brakes a bit to keep her going in 2nd.

I pull a 2-14 just fine with mine in loam to sandy loam soil with rocks. Most of the time in 2nd but sometimes I get into 3rd in really lite soil conditions.

Shouldn't have any trouble. We had 8N years ago and pulled them in blackland, also had no problem pulling 2 bedders.Paris, Tx

Lots of clay here, but it will plow if wet, also depends on the pasture--some black land too. Also, I don't have to use the 8n to break the ground the first time. This would be for a garden. On the plow model I gave, I thought that combination of number showed it to be a 2-14.

If not, when I go to pay for it, how then do I measure it to be sure of the size?

Well that is a yes no or maybe thing. In my area an 8N would not handle a 2-16 shoot it is all my 841 wants to pull it. Now if it is say a 2-12 yes it may do ok if your soil is not like it is in this part of Missouri where you have 95% clay if you have soil or you have lots of rocks
