hey guys i"m working on a friends 54 jubilee and am having problems with the 3 point lift and getting air in the hydraulic pump. the problem actually started while i was working on his brush hog it worked when i set it down then an hour later it wouldn"t lift.i found on here how to bleed the pump which does make the lift work again but after running for a while or even just sitting a while it gets air in the pump again.i chanined the arms down and checked the pressure of th pump today and it has 1500 psi so i don"t think it is a pump issue but was wonder if it could be the lift cylinder seals? i pulled the fill plug under the seat and can see the cylinder rod moving and don"t see any oil leaking around the shaft but i could see the oil moving in down below the cylinder. can anyone point me in the right direction? i have an agreement with my buddy as long as do the repairs and keep everything running right i can use it whenever i want so i really want to get it back up and running asap thanks jason |

Thank you but I am not a machinist. Just a retired computer geek with a few aging machine tools and too much time on my hands ;-)

It has been well received. Piston pump next up...

Not any more. Simple and inexpensive conversion to a modern gear pump. I have three units in the works right now.

| | First try pressurizing the system with air by sticking an air hose into the dip stick hole and pouring the air to it for at least 10 minutes to see if you have a leak in the hydraulic pump manifold. It will be in the larger tube or intake tube or its connections. If you find no leaks then it's probably going to be the hydraulic pump seal. The piston pump will pump no air. If it is the original vane type pump you are in for more trouble as the parts are hard to find and harder to have a sucessful repair. Parts for the later replacement piston pump are easy to get. Like the man said. It's the seal. Maybe the shaft and the needle bearing etc. Zane |

| | suction side leak. lift piston ain't in the suction side.. :) I'd check orings at the plumbing..an the plumbing itself... next, if a piton pump.. shaft seal would be my next check |

| 1953 is a Jubilee and a 54 is an NAA both are almost the same but have a few small differences as in the models. As for air in the hyd that can be as simple as a small hole in one of the lines or even the pipe plug in the pump not being as tight as it should be |

| my 600 series done this and i had to rebuild the rear portion of the pump, the one that mounts to side of the engine. the seal cuts a groove in the wobble shaft . ordered new shaft, seal, roller bearing, and cup bearing and race. fixed it. |

| | i don't want to start a pissing match but from eveything i can find ford started the jubilee for there 50th in 1953 and carried it into 1954 http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/2/1/219-ford-naa.html either way it doesn't matter to me which it is i'd just like to get it back to working the way it should. a couple of questions 1. i was useing it with a back blade to push logs onto a pile which pushed the arms all the way up could that have caused this? 2. once i pull the lift cover off is there any way to operate the hydraulics to look for a leak? i am a mechanic by trade and deal with hydraulics on a daily basis but have never had to deal with a tractor like this with the cylinder inside of the frame. either way it looks like i will be rebuilding a hydraulic pump in the near future |
