recently picked up a 6 foot ford 917 flail mower for $300. It looks alittle rough but has new fine cut blades on it and new belt. this past weekend was spent getting it adjusted/mowing correctly. then I mowed for 8hrs a day for two days. I am very impressed with how well it mows. I was afraid there would not be enough power to run it, but I mowed 100yrds through grass that stood about 7 foot tall with only minor problems. had to stop twice and put it neutral and let the mower rpm come up and clear itself. after that I did passes using about half the mower without issue. Most of the mowing was done in grass that was about 1 foot tall. most the time in 1st gear but when the grass was thin I could run in 2nd. the biggest thing was keeping the mower rpm up witch ment using a little more throtle than with the bush hog.

I have a 6 foot pull hog for my bigger tractors. They were all busy so hooked on the 8n to clean up the hayfield corners. She did it without a cough. I took a slow clutch to get it started but I was shocked at how it did. These old 8ns will do way more than they ought to.
