Almost got blasted out of bed by lightning storm last night - the day was hot and clear but when the sun went down it started feeling muggy - then at about 11 pm noticed some lightning waaay in the distance - before we knew it we were in the middle of a tropical style storm with crazy lighting, thunder and heavy hot rain!!! Went on all night - this morning was nice as it was cool and had that smell of rain after a long dry period - problem is it is heating up again and now it is very humid.
I lay in bed recalling the picture someone posted of the lightning strike on their property and was hoping like hell we didnt get hit - was some very close flashes and boooms but no damage or hits.
Nothing to you guys in the midwest but pretty unusual here.

| Went fishing Sunday in northern MN on Namakon Lake, a storm was over 2 miles away with just a few clouds by us, when my daughters long hair started rising up in all directions, like when you rub a balloon on someones head, shot to shore and waited a couple of minutes, then raced back to camp and called it a day for fishing. Cracked a cold one and watched the clouds blow up just east and south of us, we didn"t get a drop, poured rain 2 miles away. |

| Grew up in ND, saw plenty of thunderstorms. None like this one. Lightning lite up the bedroom, count said it was 10 miles away. Saw one bolt out the window that looked like it was tumbling. Usually flashes are straight or jagged, this had curves in it. |

| | I'm not sure you can ever get used to it...it's pretty unnerving when it comes that close. Colin, MN |
