My 9n still only lifts 150 - 200 lbs. I have removed the pump again. Disassembled and cleaned, put all valves back where they came from, new gaskets. Pressure reading 350 at idle, 400 at pto rpm. With less than 200 pound lift the lift arms move up ever so smooth, never seen that before. Plan to do whole new diagnosis including Zane's grease gun pressure test. If, as I suspect, it is leaking from pump port to pressure tube with new gasket, how do I fix that?? Another new gasket?? |

I don't understand NEUTRAL position on the touch control. This is a 9N draft control only, or am I missing something?

NEUTRAL as opposed to RAISE or LOWER position. NEUTRAL is the position on the quadrant where both the inlet and the outlet control ports are closed - e.g. the middle stay where you are position. A small quantity (quart or so) of ordinary hydraulic oil will not harm the system.

The riser tube is easly replaced. I make new tubes and a special stepped drift for removing and installing them. The tube is ordinary steel hydraulic tubing that has been expanded .010 oversize along the top 1". You simply use the drift to drive the old tube out from the bottom and drive the new tube in from the top.
If you have a source of external hydraulic pressure - e.g. remotes on another tractor or Porta-Power like pump - you can use it to help with the diagnosis. Hook it to the test port and see what you get. With the tractor off and the 3pt control in the neutral position the external pump should raise a fully loaded lift. If it doesn't there is a leak in the lift circuit somewhere.

| I know your pain. I finally got my 9N hydraulics working again. If you don't find any leaks do like HOBO told me. Reach in the inspection cover and move the control arms by hand, see if they work. If they do check to see if you did what I had done 1st run your hand up the lower lift arm it should sit on the back of the upper arm with the flat part at the top faceing the front of the tractor. 2nd where is your spring connected? It should be from the eyelet on the Ram cylinder to the notch in the lower control arm. My hydraulics were on the upper arm and would function irracticaly this was how it was when I got it and I had replaced it wrong several time before I figured it out. 3rd make adjustment to your Quadrant control. I spent the better part of a day figuring this out with mineral oil up to my shoulders and had my arm stuck inside of tractor at one point had to use other hand to grease my forearm to get it back out. If you can don't drop the linkage pin inside the tractor that is what I was trying to get when I got stuck. FYI the spring was easier to connect with the top of the hydraulic lift cover on the work bench. Put some studs in the front four holes to keep your gasket in place. Just remember your worst attempt will be the one where you give up and walk away. Wishing you the best of luck. |

| Thank You. I'll check movement of control arms. Parts Manual is on order and should be here tomorrow to help locate spring. Also, will check quadrant adjustment, seems it has quite a bit of travel before the lift arms will lower, been like that since I got the tractor, 10+ years ago. DenisW |

| Yes - Dropping the pump will require a new gasket anyway. If the tube is split, then a gasket won't help. You will replace the transfer tube.
Load the lift and use a mirror and flash light to check for turbulence prior to disassembly. |

| Thank You. I hope it is not a split tube. Does not look like an easy fix. DenisW |
