| Don.........while the 8N came from the factory, 6-volt positive (+) ground, many 8N"s have been converted to 12-volt NEGATIVE (-) ground for use with the Delco 10-SI alternator and built-in voltage regulator. Many times the converter guy removes the un-necessary squarecan voltage regulator under the oil pressure gauge. ........Dell, a 12V advocate for the right reasons, who knows 8-ways to convert to 12V and they all work the first time |

| No vol reg means it is probably 12 volts with an alternator. Don't change the polarity - you will ruin the alternator. If you cannot tell the dif between a generator and an alternator, look at the battery. 3 cells = 6 volts. 6 cells = 12 volt. If 12 volts most likely an alternator. |

| If it is a 12 volt system with an alternator, it would need to be negative ground.
If you're sure it's a generator, it could be either way. The starter will not care.
If you want to wire it back up so the generator (or alternator) charges the battery google "JMOR wiring diagram". He has done some great, easy to read pictograms of both 6 and 12 volt systems. |

| it could be negative ground if you repolarized the generator. nothing but the generator would really care. go over to the ntractor site.up at the top you will find a howto section, several wiring diagrams there of different setups, that will help you rewire yours. |
