OK, new pressure relief valve arrived today - drained oil and can see the old one in there - have a cut off 11/16 wrench but even so cannot seem to get it on - I am using the access hole on the right side as you sit on the tractor - will I have any better luck going through the other side to the left as you sit on the tractor? if so do I remove that lever to engage/disengage the pto? I do not see a nut on it - looks like a pin of some kind do you drive that through or will the whole thing come off when I remove the panel - bit nervous to remove it before knowing what might happen if i do.

Remove both inspection covers. Work from the left side and place a lamp near the left side.

If you have the OEM type valve with the cotter pin through it you will probably need to remove the cotter pin in order to install the box end wrench. Doing so will likely take longer than the rest of the job but it can be done.

When I replaced mine I took both side covers off & facing backwards from the "driver's" side of the tractor you can stick an arm in each hole, wrench in right hand & work by feel.

OK, so I do not need to remove the pto shaft inside - I have it on from the right side but cannot get any leverage to turn the wrench - I think I have been in more positions than the Kama Sutra trying to get my arm in there!!!!!!

Lee,

The left side circular panel comes off as one unit, the PTO engage lever is attached to the panel. You should be able to get the relief valve off from the left side.
