Clutch troubles on my 49 8N. Adjusted linkage fully to get disengagement but once she reaches operating temperature got to gently grind into gear. Prior to having issue, engine was overhauled and material faced off the flywheel and new clutch installed - before that worked fine.
What is the OEM thickness of flywheel and what should dimension from flywheel to top of the clutch fingers be? Overall height of clutch is 2 7/8" and friction plate is 3/8" thick.
I"ve got the transmission pulled from the engineand it seems like if the fingers (unadjustable?) were up another 1/8" I"d be OK. Local mechanic yesterday advised a thicker friction plate or shimming up the entire clutch. Any advice appreciated.

Look very closley at the little lever that the clutch rod connects to. I've seen the lever crack where it is cast to the end of the clutch cross shaft and when you push down on the pedal the crack opens up instead of the shaft moving.

A thick
er clutch would take a longer rod to disengage. You may have the disc in backward.

Hi Eric if your cluth bolts have shoulders When they ground your flywheel did they drill and countersink for the bolt shoulders? this happens when flywheels get ground down after a few times Thus not allowing the clutch to move properly If it is apart as you say you will be able to check this easy I hope this may help Dave

Does an 8n use a pilot bearing? Was it replaced when the clutch was replaced?

Pilot bearing is in the same position regardless of the refacing of the flywheel.
