| | " guessing short somewhere." Good guess. As soundguy said, follow the volts. You have 12v at the battery. You have 0v at the coil. Get out your meter. Follow the volts to the ignition switch. (no need to turn it on) If you have battery voltage to the switch, then turn it on & keep checking. You can leave the switch on as long as the points are open. You can also leave it on if you disconnect the wire at the coil. Otherwise, because it's 12v, not more than a minute. |

| | probably an open not a short. short would yeild smoke and flames! won't hurt coil for quick tests. jump bat to coil.. see if she runs.. if so, move back 1 connection at a time till she won't run.. that id's the problem |

| | check any ressitors next. use a test light.. chase power. where you loose it is the break or bad connection.. |

| MnNC........didja know that ALL squarecan 4-nipple dizzys require the "infamous ballast resistor" ...and... the ignition switch feeds the ballast resistor. Iff'n you have no volts to the top of yer 1-terminal squarecan coil, guess what??? Yer ballast resistor is BROKEN and NO VOLTS will go thru the resistor to the coil. ..........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister |

| Which tractor are we working on?
Have you just now rewired it? If so, it could have a wire crossed or faulty connection. |
