12 foot tandem disc.

We needed to put some new blades on our 12 foot tandem disc and also some new bearings. I hooked the 2N to it and pulled it into the shop. Today we finished the disc. A 12 foot tandem disc sure makes a 2N look very small. Several years ago I decided to convert this same old tractor to 12 volt but everyone told me to fix all the 6 volt stuff first, then I could do the conversion. After fixing all the 6 volt stuff , it has been running so good, starts great, so I lost interest in doing the 12 volt conversion. I really didn't know at the time that they can be made to run fine on 6 volt. One of my big problems was my starter needed the grounds , all of them to be bright and shiny. By the way, it still has the starter that came from the factory in 1947. Thank you guys, you have been a great help.

Smart move--LEAVE IT 6 VOLTS--mine had nothing when I got it--sure wish I had rounded up 6 volt parts and had left it 6 volts--but at the time it was quicker and cheaper to throw 12 volts on it..works fine BUT it is suppose to be 6 volts..often 12 volts is added to cover up other problems--it"ll spin it faster and make it crank even if it"s a little low on compression or has certain other problems...

MAN!!! Just think how great a tractor you'd have if you could find a FOUR VOLT battery...

A feller could start a whole new CULT!!

There is NOTHING wrong with a 12 volt conversion, properly done. Fellers have trouble with the 6 volt stuff, too. 6 volt can be badly done, too.. lots of post here on THAT, too.

But as you can see, I have no opinion on this at all.

Mine and my Dad's 8/2N came from my uncle as 6V. Had a lot of issues when we finally got to working on it this past summer. My Dad was completely convinced we HAD to change to 12V. But I managed to delay him long enough to go through the electrical myself (with a TON of help from the fellas on this forum). Needless to say my Dad is now convinced that 6V (from his day of course) is the way to go. LOL! I love the guy, but I was convinced that if it's all there already, may as well make it work! And I learned boat loads that I never would have otherwise.

Duey great post!

I can think of only two reasons to keep a tractor 6 volt.......if it's a show tractor or if yer a tight wad!
