PB Blaster vs Kroil

A study done by Machinist"s Workshop magazine in their April 2007 issue looked at different penetrating oils to see which one did the best job of removing a rusted bolt by measuring the pounds of torque required to loosen the bolt once treated. If the study was scientifically accurate, it turns out a home brew works best!
Here"s the summary of the test results:

Penetrating oil ..... Average load

None ...................... 516 pounds
WD-40 ................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster .............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ...... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............. 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

Hands down for simple cost per qt and for working best ATF is hard to beat. Yep been using it for decades and still say it is the best and is cheaper then the rest to boot

I use wd-40, ATF,Marvels Mistery oil,Deep Creep,Tool Box Buddy and spindel oil. WD-40 to me is only good on door latches. I pickel engines and break them loose with marvels mistery oil ,Atf or spindel oil. I have never seen Kroil in Auto Parts stores around here.

The only thing ive found that works a lot better than some overpriced kerosene is a cuttin torch to heat up the bolt or nut

Kroil is more expensive and I have to get it by mail making it more difficult to get than PB Blaster but in my opinion, it works better.

The smell of PB Blaster is disgusting, almost impossible to wash off and the scent lingers forever.

Tried the acetone/ATF couldn't really tell it worked better/worse than anything else I've used.

By far, the most effective is heat from a torch.

Any one of them will help if you can soak the part or if the screw/ bolt is vertical so the stuff stands a chance to get down in the threads If the bolt is sideways or vertical with a hex head you would do just as well to spit on the bolt head and imagine that it helped.

Best penetrating oil I've ever used I found by accident and by being cheep. We race cars and use lots of Royal Purple Synthetic oil. Mixed up used Royal Purple 5w-20 synthetic oil 50/50 with diesel fuel and way out performs anything else I've ever used, including Kroil.
