1 wire 6v gen

Has anyone given any thought to installing a smaller dia pulley so gen will charge without reving engine so hi? If so what is the thread size in the pulley? Thanks

I installed the smmallest I could find on my 12 volt generator, trying to solve a low volt output, at low RPM (didn't solve, need bench work). I found a display, I think TSC, so you can match shaft size, to different belt width and diameter. I think the smallest was 1 1/2".

uh boler?.......you do know ittza the 3rd-brush on the back of the 1-wire 6-volt genny that controls the genny 11-amps output, don't you??? NOT the genny pulley diameter size. And there is a reason why genny pulleys are about the same diameter of the genny body, eaze of inst'll.

2nd, Unlike 12V alternators, 6V-gennys are NOT designed to charge at idle.

3rd, too small pulley diameter will NOT allow the thick 5/8-wide belt to go around the little bitty pulley........ respectfully, Dell

More questions. If the gen charges when the rpm is raised, wouldnt a smaller pulley raise the rpm sooner therefore maybe at a fast idle could get a bit of charge, otherwise it doesnt charge till about 1/2 throttle. The 3rd brush has been adjusted to max.

If your generator has an adjuster screw on it,it's a third brush type, and if it's not boiling the battery with the screw adjusted all the way,you have gen problems or cutout probs.---lha

If you were to install an alternator-size pulley on a d.c. generator, the armature would spin so fast that centrifugal force would cause the segments to dislodge. Alternator rotors have only one wire inside them and have pole shoe-fingers surrounding this wire coil, so that they are made to tolerate rpms as high or higher than crankshaft speed.
