I have a 52 8 n 6 volt genny never worked . i have a 12 volt genny 2 wire . that would work in the mount but no idea how to conect and were . the 1 terminal has a f by it nothing on other terminal i believe it is for field ? any info would be appreciated in wiring . thank you .

If the genny is for a ford tractor you need 12 volt regulater to work. Most likely the F terminal on genny is for the F terminal on regulater(field)the unmarked one is armature. But you need the right regulater for genny to work.

the genny is off of a lawn tractor delco .i have regulators for my ford truck and i have been using a 12 volt battery and coil . runs well just no charging for a year that tractor will run for days on a charged battery . without recharging.

est bet is to use the regulator off that same lawn tractor & wire reg/gen the same as the lawn tractor was wired. You can't exactly mix & match any gen/reg.

Chances are it won't work ford alt. is motorcarft chevy is delco you would be the first one to make mixed matched parts to work

I mounted a Delco-Remy 12 volt generator, off of a JD model 45 self propelled combine power unit on to my frount mount 1945 2N. I frabricated a mount out of 3/4" flat stock so as to fasten to the bolt thru the governor casting and to get the generator pulley to run in line with the water pump and and main pulley and allow adjustment to the belt. I had to purchase a pulley for the generator to match the shaft dimension and the wide belt of the 2N. I found a display of universal mix/match shaft and pulley width. I used the shortest belt I could, so the genny almost just touches the manifold, but the belt still clears the front mount distributor.
I bought a "Tristar" model VR 13915 (Delco 12V + or -, and mounted it to the left and just under the battery. 3 marked connectors (F,G,B,= Field on gen,arm on gen, to battery), plus ground strap. The battery wire goes thru the gage on instrument panel, so it indicates charge and discharge and you can view how good the charging system works (key on = draw thru points, speed up and cut-out cuts in, and field regulates rate of charge. Using this generator allowed me to use the postive ground on the "Ns", and I "flashed" (polarized) the regulator and generator for the + ground. I put an in line 20 amp Buzz fuse from armiture, as Iv'e seen too many burnt wires in past.
I used the 6 volt front mount square coil, for a "cooler" running coil. I purchased a 12V to 6V resistor and mounted it in series with a "ballast resistor". I am running about 3.5 volts to coil and points. I recommend all the above as the spark is travel in the right direction (+ ground) thru points, spark plug wires, center of spark plug, to block ground. negative alternators reverse this flow and with the one wire in front coil, spark flows thru block to center of spark plug. A side mount round coil wires can be switched to accomodate the change.
Here is a video of the tractor on a "Buzzsaw" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjL8FGGwM30
