Sorry to YT parts department, but for those of you who are not very good at electrical mechanics.

It is frankly a ________. The instructions are of very little value and the diagram is not all at much help either.

I know many will disagree, but it was not very easy.

Mkes me wonder if I could ever restore a "N".

Restorations are not hard if you are mechanically inclined. But there in no reason to go 12 volts unless you are going to run 12V something or other. My 46 2N has always been 6V and except for a few starts after the engine was rebuilt and it was pretty tight that I jumped it with 12V a couple of times. No problem since. when looking for another "N" to redo and I see "12v conversion" I keep looking.

Ya know Ron,
I saw your post where you were having trouble with all this converting and was hoping you could get through it. I would have advised you convert one thing at a time but you were already down that road so all I could do was hope for the best and hope you didn't give 12V EI another black eye for being difficult or defective.
I'm glad you got it done and it was wise of you to call in a little local help too.
If you have both systems up and running you will likely NOT have to touch your electrics again between battery changes. 4-5 years?

And Richard, [i:654c4848f0]"But there in no reason to go 12 volts unless you are going to run 12V something or other."[/i:654c4848f0]
I disagree completely.
There are plenty of good reasons to convert your tractor. Just because you choose not to does not mean they do not exist.

I have installed two one wire 12 volt conversion. One was on a front mount and one was on a side mount. I agree the instructions and the wiring diagrams for both were not very clear. I am an Electrical Engineer and have been working with schematics and wiring diagrams for 45+ years and I had some difficulty. Once you get finished you will find that the instructions and wiring diagrams are correct just not very clear. The one wire wiring diagram offered in the previous post is much better then what is sent with the Atlantic conversion kit.

I agree.. i sure wouldn't have advised going for ei and the 12v conversion at the same time.

I think the key with a 12v conversion is just to throw the old wire harness away, throw the instructions away, then just re-wire the thing. we are talking about 10' of wire and a handfull of ring terminals.. :)

I, 100% agree.
directions leave a lot to be desired nowadays
If you don't do wiring regularly, read old posts,
and study the diagrams from JMOR and others
until you understand HOW it all works.
Then, like SG says, it's easy and only takes
some wire and terminals you probably have laying around.
Simplest of all is a 12V N, with a IC14SB and a voltmeter.

I also agree with throw away old harnesses.
even when they look good, I've found them with rotted, corroded
wires under the factory tape wrap.

On the other hand, if you see a 12v conversion that doesn't work you can probably use that fact to pick up the tractor CHEAP! Certainly saving enough to do it properly.
