When I do my 12 volt coversion do I still use the same amp meter and oil pressure gage?

Or do they need to be replaced?

You can use the same ones. The only electric in the pressure guage is a light and I'll bet it's a 12 volt light. Amp meter measures current not volts and will work with either 6 or 12 volts.

Ron,Amps are Amps 6 volt 12 volt 24 volt it makes no difference. The oil pressure gauge has nothing to do with voltage or amps.Just the dash light if the gauge has light.

Ron.......surprizingly enuff, amp-meter don't care, 6-or-12v, positive or negative ground (alternators DEMAND negative ground or you will lett the smoke out) All the amp-meter cares is DC (direct current) amp-meters don't like AC (house volts, eh?) You kinda care positive or negative ground 'cuz yer eyeballs are trained to associate POSITIVE (+) readings with filling the battery with them invisible electrons. Iff'n amp-meter reads discharge (-) when yer engine is running, guess what? BAD genny or alternator ...or... you miss-connected the amp-meter. It doesn't hurt the amp-meter to be miss-connected, just yer eyeballs. .......Dell, the electrician

Hey, 36c, you can go back to sleep...he successfully completed his conversion 12 days ago!

So we (older mechanically inclined friend) finished the 12 volt conversion kit and electronic ignition and new ammeter.

Guess what first turn of the key and it fired up and ran like a top.

Only one thing, we had to reverse the wires on the ammeter, due to the fact it was running to the discharge side instead of the positive side. 5 minute fix.

Thanks to every one who helped...

Chunk the amp gauge and use a volt meter with yer new modern alt,,, the probability of the alt failing are near zero,,, no adjustments need to be make to the system,,, a volt meter will give you a overall good indicator of the WHOLE system all the time...
