12 v helper fan

i was able to get a used 12v fan and have it on my 50" 8n now. i thought i would go after the area that usually causes it to run hot,i only have a 4" cutter, the blades were sharpend back in the spring. and to keep it cool i sometimes in thick stuff only take half a mower width. and cut taller, granted it was a lot shorter now, than last time i went at it, so to put it to the test i used a 6" finish mower. wow it makes a unbelievable differance. i should mention i changed the radiator cap i runed by drilling a hole to relieve pressure.so if anyone has a overheating unit, a junk yard fan and some time could be a good way to deal with it.

If your 8n is overheating, and not just spewing out liquid from overfilled radiator, you have a problem. My '41 9n without shroud or pressurized radiator mows, plows discs in 95+* heat and never measures over 185-190* anti-freeze temp. You should clean and flush the entire system.---lha

I agree!!

No shroud on my '49 either.

as lha said.. if an N pulling a 4' mower is overheating.. you have issues. My 8n pulls a 5' mower thru stuff so thick I run throttle at max for hours.. never has overheated ( I DO have a new radiator as of 10ys ago though ).

I sugest you theck your thermostat, and clean the radiator.
