12v charging question

I recently had to replace the flywheel ring gear and when I did so I was able to keep the hood attached along with all the wiring except the batt and the starter. After reassembly the ammeter shows a 20-30 ano charge all the time. I quick look didn't reveal any loose wires. I hate electrical issues so would appreciate a check list of what I should be looking at.

(yep new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and seals)

Thanks!!

If your speaking of a neg. charge on the gauge, you may have lost a diode in the alternator.Take the alternator down & have it checked..

Mick.......surprizingly enuff, loose wires would cause ZERO amps 'stedda' +20/30-amps charge.

Remember, 12v alternator conversions require NEGATIVE GROUND. otherwize you will let the SMOKE OUT and maximize yer amp-meter reading 'cuz its workin' backwards. And since you disconnected yer battery, guess what???

Ennytime you have 12v charging issues, take yer alternator into enny autoparts store for their "free" alternator smoke check.

PS..... label or draw how the wires are connected to the alternator. (1-wire or 3-wire gitts confusin' to electrical challenged shadetree mechanix) ......Dell
