12V battery size

Does the size of the battery effect the life? I had a big(long) battery from my dakota in my 8N and it finally died. Looking to replace the smaller group 22 or 35 are cheaper. How many amps does a 8N need?

A new lawn mower battery will start an N series tractor in warm weather. That said the biggest CCA battery you can find that will fit is the best way to go

Twenty years ago my father had converted our 2N to 12V and used a very small 12V battery. It soon died and he requested that I find the largest CCA-rated battery to fit.

Because of height restrictions, the most powerful battery readily available then was a side-terminal (GM-style)unit. I had to change both the cables, but the terminals were much better protected from short-circuiting. That battery lasted ten years, and the second one is lasting even longer! CCA is very important!
