Need a wiring diaghram on how to wire a alternator for 8n tractor, I have it runing but will not cut off with main switch. Had to install a second push button switch to cut it off. As long a the alternator is charging it will not cut off, have to put main switch to off then push the push button to cut it off.

In the wire feeding the #1 terminal of the 2-prong plug on alternator (guess it is a 10-SI), you need to insert either a diode or an idiot light (bulb #'s 194, 53, 57, 1815 are all OK). Diodes 1N5551, 1N5404, 1N5408, RS#276-1661, RS# 276-1144, etc. will work). Diode band toward the alternator.
Any of these stops the back-feed from the alternator's exciter diode-trio.

Thanks to JMOR & GA Dave for all your help will get a diode, but I am useing a two wire alternature. Is all I have to do is put a diode in
line toward alternator. Thanks again will get one soon.

"2-wire" alternator is a flag.

The diode has to be in the correct wire!

'm not Bob, I'm JMOR, Bob originated the picture.

The alternator OUTPUT comes from the stud on the rear with the 10GA wire & the sense wire going up to plug terminal #2........without that you are not going to do any serious charging. Doesn't matter where along the wire you put the diode..where ever convenient. Don't under stand your switch question? Anything taking power from the battery is a 'load', so on your ignition switch, the side of it tahat is hot, whether ON or OFF would be what you are looking for if I grasp your question,
You never said as far as I can tell whether your 8N is early (front mount disrt/right side alt) or late model (side mount distr/left side alt). What is it.?
If still have troubles, I may have a diagram you will see more easily.

Mine is a side mount distributor was told it is a 1952 model but I am having problem finding the wright rotor and distributor cap,I have bought dist. cap and rotor for 8n but they do not fit.
The cap is too big and rotor where shaft goes is too small and made different.
I am sorry about the name JMOR

Some tractors have had the distributors replaced by after market units, so the Ford parts don't fit. Prestolite was a common replacement. Does it look like this:

(quoted from post at 14:04:39 01/19/10) Yes it looks like this, the dist.cap measures 3-1/8 across, the rotor looks right too.

To the best of my knowledge, these are the part numbers, available from YT (this site). Before ordering, I would talk to them & verify. Look carefully around perimeter of your distributor for ID numbers.

points IGS2224LB and BWD #A81
condenser IAT3076HS
rotor IGP1016D and ECH #AL150
cap IBK1009 and Perstolite #3-129 and ECH #AL165
dust cover IBT1059

looked at picture on TISCO site & it looks like it is held on with screws where the one I pictured was held on with clips. (Catalog pictures are sometimes just "representative".) How is your cap held on? Might want to be sure your clip/screw is what YT has for you.
P.S. Tisco is a distributor, so no telling who makes their parts, so I'm not surprised at the response you got.

For the ell of it try look'n for the parts for a early IHC scout 4cyl,,, that's what it looks lac to me...

WARNING  all I know I read on the Internet,,, do it enuff and you can become a guru also,,, not responsible for damages,,, I read it and just pass it along,,, proceed with caution

JMOR THANKS FOR ALL INFO.
BY YOUR HELP I MAY GET EVERYTHING WRIGHT,IT REALLR RUNS GOOD,STARTED CUTTING OUT THE OTHER DAY AND GOT TO CHECKING THE COIL WIRE FROM COIL TO DIST.WAS BAD REPLACED THAT AND IT IS RUNNING GOOD NOW. BUT WANT TO GET NEW PARTS TO HAVE JUST IN CASE. I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP YOU HAVE GIVEN ME.

On plate on right side had no type 4-2524 & serial no 1003-k9cb on left side of clutch housing had nf 32 & 8n-c.1 does any of these no mean anything?
