Dave......to "bench test" enny amp-meter, you need a "known" load and a "known" voltage. Its the LAW, Ohm's Law. Amp-meters don't care what the voltage is. For a known load, think headlite bulb. For a known voltage, enny volts battery that matches the headlite volts specifications. In other words, DON'T use a 12v battery on a 6v headlite, or you will let the smoke out. And don't use a 6v battery on a 12v headlite. Understand the concept???

Yer loop amp-meter is 20-percent accurate, so iff'n you expect 10-amps, it could read 8-amps or 12-amps.

As fer yer cut-out, they usually are replaced 'cuz the relay pivot points gitt worn and sticky. .....Dell

Been waiting for you to show up and answer this one! I was hoping that was the case. I have a good rectifier that does 6/12 volts and more than my share of spare tractor headlights around. I'll see if I can get a rise out of this gauge and, if no then run up and get a new one. It's a long stinkin drive is all and I am trying to avoid it. Thanks!

if you wanted to test the cutout, you can use a battery charger and battery... pretty much just like it was doing it's job n the tractor.. it should behave on the bench.. when the cutout threshold voltage is eclipsed at the input side.. it should pull in and charge the bat.. thus you can test your induction meter and cutout at the same time with the bat charger and bat.
