I disassembled the steering box on my 2n/9n Hybrid to repair a botched weld repair previously made on the casting where the start button is mounted. There must have been two or three pounds of nasty looking grease in there, however none of it appeared to be in the area where lube is needed ie. where the pinion mates with quadrants. The quadrants appear OK but the pinion is rusty worn and dry. What is the proper lube for the steering box and how is it applied, thanks for any info. |

| I have seen several tractors with a small tube run from the test plug, through a cut-off valve to limit flow to a trickle, and up to an intake point at the upper tube of the steering gear to get more lube into the steering gear.---lha |

| Thanks, that's what I thought, there was so much nasty grease in there that the passage to the transmission was completely blinded off. I guess it was an accumulation of grease coming down the steering column over a period of 60+ years. |

| | Like Dell said.. yer 9n/2n steering box takes about 5g of gear lube.. but generously shares it with yer trans, diffy, adn hyds.. since it's all a common sump. soundguy |

| Bill.......would you believe that NO steering gearbox lube for 9N/2N??? It is "splash lubed" by yer tranny front bearing oil slinger. Look for a "drain-hole" in yer tranny topcover (steering gearbox) ......Dell |
