I fought it and finally won. I took the dist. off and hooked power to the coil and ground then hooked a wire from the bottom tab of the dist to a spark plug top and a ground to the plug and dist and spun the dist shaft and could not get spark until I put another coil on and my problem was solved. The coil was only about 6 months old if that, so they do go bad I am sure the made in taiwan didnt have anything to do with it. NOT
Thank you all for the help!!!!
Larry

don't all front mount owners have a stash of broken coils

NO, Hobo, they all don't!!!!

In my 25+ years of owning a front mount, '49 8N, 6v, positive ground, one wire Chevy 10si alternator, 8N *236763*, I did many years ago, buy one one new coil, I wish I knew what went with the old one.

I haven't even been thru about 3 sets of points in that time, and very little maintainence do I do on them, dayum thing just works, and is always ready to go to work when I am, ran her about 6 hours this afternoon.

I got tired, and it got dark, but she was still ready to work, when I put her down for the night.

Hey I believe it and comend ya on yer table top high tech coil analyzer,,, you can do the same thang with a 9V radio battery are double A's wired in series if 6v's is yer thang.

don't all front mount owners have a stash of broken coils

Never hurts to check but have found the OEM resistor is all that's needed,,, its possible that the wrong coil was in the kit to start off with,,, BTDT,, talked to the supplier and they don't give a chit,,, send the bad coil back.

A front mount can not tolerate leaving the ignition switch on for long engine off,,, 6 are 12 it will heat'em up and make'em puke are crack

would b a good time to convert yer old coil to a external round can coil and eliminate yer front mount coil issues.

Theirs a guy here having a liquidation sale,,, he mite have a stash of the older tar filled EZ to convert coils,,, look'em up...

WARNING  all I know I read on the Internet,,, do it enuff and you can become a guru also,,, not responsible for damages,,, I read it and just pass it along,,, proceed with caution

I only have one 8N with a front mount coil. I converted it to using a real round can 12 volt no resister needed flame thrower 3 ohm coil as shown on Hobo's web site and added electronic ignition. Best move I ever made. The original ignition system does work and works well if everything is within specified tolerances but a proper 12 volt conversion with electronic ignition makes even a marginal tractor a good starter and better runner.

The coil only lasted 6 months on a 12v conversion? Sure, it could have been junk, but if you don't have the correct resistors it will burn up. As will the one you just installed. Until you find out the resistance of the coil, you will be playing a very expensive guessing game regarding the value of the resistors you will need in the circuit to keep from melting the it.

I put the resistor on that came with the 12 volt conversion, why do people not want to believe a coil went bad. Last I knew they are made by humans and in taiwan at that.

As I said.......it could have been junk. Until you find out what the resistance of the new coil is, you can easily burn it up as well. How do you know if you're using the correct resistors if you've never checked? Or, if you don't want to figure that out, use a round coil like Hobo suggested.

Grand Valley Tractor has an adapter plate to use a round coil.Their web site has a pix. I saw an adapter on a Ford car over 20 years ago.The junk yards are full of good round coils.Friends 9n has cooked 2 coils,12v conversion.
