Topic: 6 volt lights

my 49 8n had no lights, it is 6 volts, postive ground. i just got a set of lights off a 8n 6 volt. they only have one wire coming out of them.do i hook it the positve or neg side of the battery? |

| Since your tractor is positive ground you want to connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery through a switch. The light uses the sheet metal contact of the light mounting to provide the return path. With old rusty tractors this often makes for a very poor return path and very dim lights. You will most likely get better lighting by running a second wire as a return "ground" back to the positive battery post or to a good clean ground connection on the cast part of the tractor. |

:) Bulbs will last longer connected to grounded side, but then again, how would you know if they were burned out or not?

| brokenjunk,If its positive ground,The switch would hook to the negative post or terminal,or post at the amp meter. |

| | If I were you, I'd hook them to an ignition switch. Makes it easy to turn them off & on. Do not run the light switch through the ignition switch. You will burn up the ignition switch. |
