my apologies if this is just "loose language",
but actually you do not have SPARK at the points.
The points interrupt the 12 (or 6) volts, which in conjunction with the condenser and the coil induces the SPARK from the coil, and then the distributor in turn pipes the SPARK to your plugs.
So you would see 12 or 6 volts at the points, not the same SPARK as goes to the plugs.
