My brother in law aquired a 50 or 51 8N. It has proof meter. There is another lever aprox 18" high just in front of PTO shifter It is mounted in cover plate just ahead of pto shifter lever. It is spring loaded & looks to be factory mounted. I have had & seen over 30 8N fords, but never saw anything like this. I have checked all my books & can find no reference to this lever.

Indeed - that was the first thing that jumped out at me when I say Dunks post. When I went to Ed's site and saw the two shifter picture it all came flooding back and I realized I already had those pics on my hard disk.

TOH - or more appropriately perhaps TAK - The Alzheimer Kid

Is there still space under all that for the hydraulic pump?

Quite a shoe horn job ehh?? The pump is there but I imagine there's little clearance to spare. Perhaps not quite as tight as a Howard though....

It has a proof meter, but also has a front distributer. All I was wanting to know was: what the xtra lever was for, as I have never seen one before. I am sure engine was swapped. due to the dash & proofmeter. It must be a 1951 or 1952 for the most part.

I have been told the lever was for live pto, also that it was to be able to stop tractor while pto is still running. We will find out when he gets it running.

I (and I suspect a number of others here) would be very interested in seeing a picture or two of the mechanism inside - perhaps taken through the right side inspection opening?????

Please, pretty please :D

Is this what you want to see?

Thanks Dunk, Ive actually seen that before. My first reaction this time was that's an NAA but when I looked at the image URL it says 8N.....

I think the one for the NAA, or at least one of them, had some integrated hydraulics.

I don't think the one in the pic does.

All I know about them is what I find on the Internet.

This tractor appears to be a 1952 Ford 8N judging by the upper lift arms. Ford changed to the wide flat top upper lift arms in 1952. I hope this info helps.

They are rare. Its just some kinda clutch pack. All it does is stop the forward motion of the tractor...PTO continues to run..

If you have a pic it will help us. BUT, I'm speculating it is a "live" pto, dealer added, conversion. I myself have seen 2. One on a 8n and the other on a Jubilee.
